Kurt’s Convention Rules

Hello Dear Reader!

Today I want to share some advice that was given to me a few weeks ago by my friend Kurt.

Let me back up a moment. Two weeks ago I went to Dragonsteel Con! This was so incredibly exciting and I had such a great time. It’s the first large convention I’ve been to. (I know… I know… shocking.) I am a frequent patron of the Renaissance Festival, but I have yet to attend a ComicCon or other similar convention.

Got to hold Oathbringer. It was pretty epic.

But this post isn’t going to be about me gushing about how awesome I thought Dragonsteel Con was and how I now want to attend all the conventions. This post is about some great feedback that a friend gave me to help me get the most out of the convention and really enjoy myself.

Kurt’s Rules of the Con:

  1. Eat breakfast! (A real breakfast)

  2. Shower each morning! (Or evening)

  3. Drink LOTS of water.

  4. Sleep in a bed for a minimum of 6 hours. 7 if you are in the 35 and up bracket.

  5. Take breaks. Go to your hotel room and give yourself some quiet time.

  6. Don’t eat fast food if you can help it, make sure to eat full meals, not just burgers and fries the whole time.

  7. TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!

And follow these rules I did. I made sure to start each morning with a good breakfast with plenty of protein and fiber to keep me full for a long time so my stomach wasn’t growling while I was listening to panels or standing in line. I made sure I ate meals that included lots of fruits and veggies, I tried to avoid deep fried foods or at least limit to once per day. I did take my Vitamins, especially my immune boosting vitamins! (Disclaimer, I’m not a doctor, don’t take any supplements without talking to your health care provider.) I made sure to go to bed in time to get a solid 7 hours of sleep. And I made sure to drink lots of water.

I’m an introvert (with some extroverted tendencies), so being around large crowds tend to tucker me out and drain my social battery pretty quickly. Add to this the fact that our dog sitter fell through, and I had to go by myself, because my dear husband valiantly stayed home to take care of the dogs. I think that taking that quiet time was extra good for me.

And I felt really good at the end of the convention. :) Not burned out from too much socializing, not feeling icky from eating too much greasy food, but pumped up and ready to go again.

Till next time dear reader, let me know what some of your favorite conventions are in the comments below. I can’t wait to hear from you, and hopefully see you at a convention sometime soon! <3 Tiff
